PinkingNY
Brooklyn, New York, August 2004

On the riverbank of the East River in Green Point Brooklyn, an industrial
area, lies this rusty steel construction. Partially in the water and partially
supported by a former pier it has remained like that for approximately
14 years. I painted the whole construction, including all the details,
with lightning fluorescent pink pigment mixed with some white, in an acrylic
medium. Pink is the one of the only colors you will not usually see in
the environment of an industrial harbor. With this addition, the construction
became more enjoyable to look at, it almost looked like a child’s
toy, softer and actually funnier than before. The new fresh color emphasizes
the beauty of the original form.
